Resources for Training Biblical Elders

Resources for Training Biblical Elders

OUR MISSION

The training and equipping of church leaders, especially of a plurality of biblical elders, has always been at the heart of Lewis & Roth’s mission. For more than 30 years, we have endeavored to provide high-quality, biblical resources that address this critical need. In furtherance of this mission, we recommend these excellent websites for online training.

“The lack of elder training is an extremely critical problem…. We erroneously believe that our serving elders and deacons understand spiritual oversight and care, but in fact our churches are filled with elders and deacons who confess that they are unprepared and untrained for their work.”

— Alexander Strauch in Biblical Eldership Study Guide

Choose individual videos that address a specific area of interest, or enroll in the School of the Shepherds. The video below is the first lesson in a 5-part series titled An Urgent Call to Shepherd, an exposition of Peter’s charge to the elders in 1 Peter 5.

“THEY KEEP WATCH OVER YOUR SOULS’

Although this series was originally delivered more than 3 decades ago, and at times the audio is a bit degraded, the Biblical truth is unchanged—and needed as much as ever. In this series of eight dynamic lessons, Alexander Strauch addresses the key issues every man must consider when taking on or executing the office of eldership.

  1. THE IMPORTANCE AND RELEVANCE OF CHURCH ELDERSHIP
  2. HUMBLE SERVANTHOOD
  3. THE NOBLE TASK (1 Timothy 3:1)
  4. THE IDENTITY CRISIS, Part One (The Role of an Elder)
  5. THE IDENTITY CRISIS, Part Two (The Role of an Elder, cont.)
  6. HARD WORKING MEN (1 Thessalonians 5:12)
  7. THE IMPORTANCE AND DYNAMICS OF THE ELDERS’ MEETING
  8. THE SHEPHERD-WIFE RELATIONSHIP
